Three Fun Ways to Save Money

Whether it’s a night out, a beach vacation, or purchasing something you’ve wanted for a long time, spending money on fun activities can be easy, but how about saving your money? Now that can be a bit more difficult. Financially Fit Me (FFMe) encourages individuals to adopt healthy saving habits, and with the help of Amanda Grossman, the founder of Frugal Confessions, below are three fun ways you could think about when saving money from your next paycheck!

  1. Create a Money Game Board: The idea of this activity is to map out a square of blocks, much like a board game, and put a dollar amount in each square. Every few blocks, make sure to pencil in a reward that you have to work toward! The objective is to save the amount of money written in each square in order to move onto the next.

  2. Weekly Card Pickup: How perfect is it that there are 52 weeks in a year and 52 cards in a deck? This makes for the perfect savings challenge! For this activity, make a year-long goal of how much money you want to save (don’t forget to post it on FFMe for community support!) Then, assign a dollar amount to each suit in your deck. Each week, you will have a savings goal to achieve before flipping over a new card!

  3. X Marks Progress: Inspired by Jerry Seinfeld who would put an X on his calendar each day he completed his task of writing, this challenge encourages individuals to continue a chain of “X’s” on their own calendar. Grossman gives many ideas on how to apply this concept to saving money however, one idea would be to put an X on any day you move $5 (or more) into your savings account.
