Tik Tok and Financial Wellness in Young Adults

In an article recently posted by the Wall Street Journal, author Cheryl Munk discusses the vast amount of knowledge and information currently being posted on Tik Tok regarding finance and investment. For young adults especially, Tik Tok is a beneficial platform for learning because the app allows creators to post short, digestible videos that are “palatable to a younger audience.” Financial terminology is often looked at as difficult to interpret and learn, and TikTok is changing this stereotype everyday with millions of young adults posting their success stories and advice. CEO of Greenlight Tim Sheehan stated “There are very few educational resources about personal finance that are accessible and compelling to young people. So it isn’t surprising that kids are turning to social media. TikTok in particular provides quick, digestible content that can instantly capture your attention.” He also states, however “Misinformation dominates social media and it can be very difficult to discern the facts.” The lesson here is to not trust everything you see and read, and always check the sources of where you are getting your financial information from.
